Crowns

Crowns

In some cases, where there is extensive decay, the tooth may require a crown. A crown holds together the parts of the tooth left and helps avoid tooth fracture. The two options for crowns are as follows:

Stainless steel crowns: Also known as "silver crowns," stainless steel crowns are the shiny silver crowns that you may see some kids have. They are prefabricated and fitted to your child's tooth. They are also very strong and durable and do not contain any mercury. However, in some cases, especially in some children who may have a metal sensitivity, they may cause gum inflammation.

Zirconia crowns: Zirconia crowns are the white alternative to stainless steel crowns. They are prefabricated similarly to stainless steel crowns and are made of a biocompatible all-ceramic material that has superb esthetics.

We will discuss the pros and cons of all our restorative options so we can come up with an individualized preventative plan that will help restore your child's teeth to their proper form and function.
